Hopefully we’ll hear from The Hawk as he did an awesome job! If I had to guess, it looks like he used a couple different colors. Possible some Antique Umber, Cola, and a little Walnut for the darker areas. Cheers!

What kind of stain did you use for this look? It looks awesome!

Hey Scott! Sorry for the delay. If they are larger holes I’ll typically add a little sand into the cement — and use an acrylic fortifier to help it bond more effectively. Sounds like the mix may need to be a bit wetter the next time. Concrete projects are a learning curve and you’ll continue to improve with each project.

I ended up with loads of holes in it even though I spent ages vibrating the concrete.

I have spent hours trying to fill the holes with a concrete water and hardener mix and then re polishing/grinding however I still can’t get it right the holes just end up with a little divot there and can’t seem to get them smooth.

Any tips?

Cheers!

Been working on a coffee table like this for a little while now I have made to top and frame and now I am up to the finishing touches of polishing. Now I am having some problems with the polishing.

How long did it take as I am using 50 grit diamond pad and it started off smooth but now I am just slowly creating holes where the glass must be. To get rid of the holes and expose the glass/aggregate it’s taking a lot of time. Is there something I can do to speed it up get a metal grinding disc perhaps?

Like this? https://www.bunnings.com.au/dta-105mm-turbo-grinding-disc_p6370143

Hey! yeah that dolly is a life saver 🙂 I’m jealous of all the snow you just got! Hope all is well out there. There are definitely alternatives to polishing. Polishing is the only way to really expose the aggregate. But if you don’t need to embed glass etc you can simply sand it with an orbital sander similar to how I finish the concrete dining table: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZyeVPEqbF8 – and my concrete playlist will show you a few more examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcon-Oivqs4&list=PLlAnlwB04VJR779xAJhtGzGYFcC9yVQ22 Let me know if that helps! Cheers – Pete

That could have been filmed in my back yard in central ny.

I’ve been wanting to try making one of these tops but I don’t have a concrete polisher. Are there any alternatives methods for finishing these tops, like using an angle grinder?

Hey Greg! Thanks for saying hi! So I actually just did an L shaped bar with an upper and lower surface. The upper surface where about 4-5 people can sit has a live edge and looks like stone. I did a test project to work the kinks out, and will be making one to film soon. It’s a total of about 5 feet wide. You may need bigger, but I think it will give you some good ideas that may help with your project. Stay tuned 🙂 Cheers

If you’re looking for another project maybe you can show us how to put together a big basement bar for a mancave? I’ve been thinking about trying that, and using a big live edge slab as the bar top. Anyway, thanks again! Great site, great builds, and awesome plans. Cheers!
