Hi Ryan, I used doug fir for the tv console. Pine would work great as well. I used cedar on the floating shelves (simply b/c I had some scraps around the shop). Cheers

I am interested in the bookshelf, and the floating shelf as well, i suppose pine is fine for the interior frame on that. …i know that the coffee table is Doug Fir since using the stain.

Hi! Great question. The console is constructed with a 2×4 frame which is pretty beefy. That is a lot of equipment, but I think it will do just fine. You may need to modify the compartment areas a bit to best fit your components — and you could increase the depth if you feel it’s needed. I’d probably stick with a back as it does add additional re-enforcement — and it really hides a lot of ugly wires. Let me know if that helps. Cheers!

My amplifier weighs 93 pounds (approx 8H x 18D), processor another 30 pounds (approx 8H x 18D), Blueray/DVD player clocking in at 27 pounds (approx 5H x 17W x 15D), power conditioner another 20 pounds (depth/height not a problem), and then my subwoofer is another 60 pounds (approx 17H x 16W/D)…so we’re talking over 230 pounds of equipment! Some it requires at least 2-3 inches in the back to be able to connect as well so depth is a concern as well unless we’re talking open back, but then i imagine that would take away a considerable amount of strength as well. Your thoughts before i even attempt building something like this?
